“So, you did not get good score to get a seat in your city. This city has well known colleges but you need high marks to get admission here”, said the lady sitting beside me. Her statement took me by surprise. In all my honesty, I could not grasp the fact that she judged me as not good enough student to get a descent college seat.
Though I was not among the top most college, yet the seat I have secured for my engineering was one of the good colleges. So, when my credibility was questioned by some stranger, my youthful exuberance got hurt. The lady further explained how she know many students studying in this city in good colleges. But they were not engineering colleges and I was an engineering student.
I did not feel like explaining the details and the topic came to an end with my limited interest in her chatting. I narrated that incident to friends and family, and laughed about the lady’s ignorance.
But that incident somewhere always stayed with me. Other than being a routine interaction during journey, it gave me a deep lesson.
On that day I learned, how there is no perfect reality in life. Things always exist in relativity. Till the context was engineering, I could claim being a good student. However, as soon as the perspective drifted away, I became an average.
We may claim to be the experts and keep fanning our ego. But it just takes someone’s different perspective, not centred around us to make us ordinary. Try to play with a child someday. If you are not able to make a paper plane as he knows, you are a failure to that child. Now, you may claim to be an expert in your life but in his world you are failure.
So, when the ego starts building in times of rise, remember that there is some world where you are still a novice. This thought can keep us humble to be a learner. It also builds the courage to laugh the ideas about us rather than getting hurt.
