The idea of improving others, changing the wrong things is fascinating to our senses. Whenever we hear the words like improvement, correction; our focus is shifted outwards. We find the faults and the defaulters. We have lot of ideas for others to correct their ways. And in this process, everyone is busy in correcting something around them but nothing changes.
What if we start with ourselves? Bringing the change in ourselves first and then living that change visibly enough for people around us to notice. As humans have a connection with ape. What if it is very old. We still hold their qualities of imitation.
When one person changes himself, he starts the trigger. And if each one of us are changing the sum total of that change will be the change in our community. If the atom changes, molecule changes as a result of that atomic change. And with molecules, the body will also change.
Individual person is the atomic unit of the community. When the individual decides to change for the better, this improvement will propagate in the whole ecosystem around him. The need is for each one of us to become conscious about the role we must play in the improvement we want in our society.
Preaching can only create noise; real change asks for actual action. As tom Ziglar quotes,
“Change starts with you, but it does not start until you do.”
So, if I really want to improve my community, I should work on my improvement. Do I have the qualities that I ask for in my fellow citizens? Do I behave the way I want the behavior towards me?
I should work on my improvement till the above answers are not a definite YES. If each one of us can reach that goal, the community will itself be improved. In our imaginations each one of us aspire for a community that is fair, clean and resourceful. But, in our actions that we differ from each other. Our actions are not always inclined with our expectations.
I will keep working on making myself better with each day. And I hope someone will pick it up from me and the chain grows to help my community become better gradually.
