Human life is all about aspirations and growth. We all aspire to grow stronger in terms of finance. Hence, we all follow one path or other to find our source of livelihood. Some like the work they choose from start, some start liking it after some time and some retire without any likeness for the job they kept for their entire life.
This brings out a thought process which advocates the independence of doing the work we love. The market, influencers and advisors sing pangs about the romance between you and the area of your work. More than help, this fanciful depiction of the work world in our life, creates confusion, adds frustration to our lives. No one wants to do things that look boring to them. But practical world has limitations and at times someone has to do jobs which are not very charming but do add value to our lives in terms of money.
When we are not happy with the work we do, we think the problem is with the work. And to resolve the problem we should replace the work with something better. However, there is another aspect. Work is part of our life. We still have life outside work. If the things that we love do not pay us, that does not mean we stop doing them. We can do them for free, for ourselves.
There are things that we do to earn the livelihood and then there can be things that we do to add the charm to life. Areas like arts, sports, social service etc. can be explored for the joy and purpose they can add to life. Life can never be enjoyed in the extremes or chunks. If you can add the different flavors to it, it gets tastier.
You need a well-paying work life to give yourself the material things you deserve. Add to it conscious time of joyful activities for cherishing your spirit. There is no need to choose between two or replace one from another. There is a practical possibility to do both at the same time, in the same life.
When we allow ourselves conscious time with activities we cherish, we no more blame the work life for our miseries. The time spent on the activities destresses and nurtures our soul. Indeed, that can be helpful in improving our work performance also. As we no more want our work to nurture our soul, we have no additional expectations from it.
